TEC is providing professional transportation engineering services for the design of ¾-mile of complete streets improvements along Route 68 (Main Street/Gardner Road) through the town center. The plan was driven by the town’s vision to revitalize their town center for its local businesses and all users along Main Street/Gardner Road from the intersection of Brigham Street/Elm Street to the Curtis Recreational Field. Corridor improvements include a multi-use path with a buffer along one edge of the roadway adjacent to Hubbardston Center School and town facilities, and a bicycle lane with a sidewalk along the opposite roadway edge to improve the pedestrian experience and enable bicyclists full access. On-street parking was included to reduce the travel lane width and slow vehicular travel speeds through the town center. TEC also assisted the town in receiving project approval by MassDOT to be funded through the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The project dovetails with the town’s 2018 Complete Streets project, which will install a sidewalk on Elm Street and is book ended by two MassDOT STIP projects.
