Plain Street Bridge Replacement
Right of Way
Administration and Inspection Services
TEC, Inc.’s structural team provided engineering services for the final design and construction of the Plain Street Bridge replacement project over the Canoe River. The bridge serves as a popular recreational area for kayakers, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts. Our team worked very closely with the Town’s local boards and commissions to ensure that recreational use of the Canoe River would be maintained to the greatest extent possible during construction. The new bridge provides sidewalks on both sides in accordance with the Department’s Healthy Transportation Policy Directive.
Our design for the replacement structure includes the use of accelerated construction techniques (PBES) for substructure and superstructure elements to minimize construction duration and traffic detouring. We led significant permitting efforts with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for a Categorical Exclusion. Other permitting efforts include De Minimis Impact Determination on 4(f) property, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the Army Corps of Engineers, Mass Historic Commission, and the local historic board and conservation commission.
Bridge construction was completed in the summer of 2017.
