Construction Inspector

Responsibilities

  • On-site construction inspection to ensure conformance with contract documents

  • Calculate and track contract item installed quantities

  • Prepare daily field reports

  • Coordinate and facilitate communication between contractor, client, regulatory agencies, utility companies, abutting property owners, and stakeholders

  • Thorough documentation of site activities and communications

  • Provide interpretation and clarification of plans and contract documents

  • Assist office staff with response to RFI and preparation of work change directives

  • Review contractor invoices and pay requisitions

Skills

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and contract documents

  • Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Thorough understanding of MassDOT standard and supplemental specifications and construction standards

  • Ability to proactively identify constructability issues

  • Interpretation of material testing results (e.g. HMA pavement, cement concrete, and borrow materials)

  • Negotiation and mediation experience is a plus

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D is a plus

Qualifications

  • BS in civil engineering is a plus

  • Minimum 5 years of construction administration experience or comparable experience as a contractor

  • OSHA 10-hour training certification

  • EIT or PE is a plus
